Joe McElderry

XFactor Winner 2009 ~ The Story So Far .  .  .

Joe McElderry was born in South Shields, Tyneside, England on 16th June 1991.

After attending Harlton Technology College, he joined South Tyneside College and then Newcastle College where he studied performing arts. Joe was backed by them to win the X Factor.

Many people don’t actually realise that Joe McElderry had auditioned previously for the X Factor in 2007, however felt very young in comparison to the other contestants, so much so that he decided to walk away from the competition at that time.

In his audition in Manchester Joe McElderry sang “Dance with My Father”, by the late Luther Vandross. He then travelled to Morocco with his mentor Cheryl Cole, where she and Will Young chose him as one of the final three to continue on to the live shows.

Joe chose the same song in the X Factor final as he did for his initial audition, Luther Vandross’s “Dance With My Father” .

The second song was “Don’t Let The Sun Go Down On Me”, which he sang alongside George Michael.

Joe chose “Sorry Seems To Be The Hardest Word” as his third song, and sang it note perfect.

Joe McElderry won the public vote along with Olly Murs, to reach the final two of the X Factor Finals.

Stacey Solomon gave one of her best performances, but still didn’t make the cut for the final.

Joe and Olly both performed “The Climb” by Miley Cyrus in the final show of the X Factor.

Joe McElderry eventually won the series with almost faultless vocals throughout the final shows and clinched the coveted £1 million recording contract.

Joe McElderry’s first CD ” The Climb” was released after becoming the sixth winner of the X Factor 2009.

The 18 year old performing arts student from South Shields new single “The Climb” certainly is apt, as he definately climbed his way to the to the winning position on the show.

Joe McElderry can currently be seen in the X Factor Live Tour, along with Lloyd Daniels, Jamie Archer, Olly Murs, Danyl Johnson, Lucie Jones, Stacey Solomon, and John & Edward.

In the X Factor live Tour shows the acts are performing classics, songs from the show and their charity cover of Michael Jackson’s ‘You Are Not Alone’.
